The Words That Stay.
16.05.2026
Words carry far more power than many people are willing to admit.
They can stay inside someone for years.
They return at night.
They repeat themselves in the silence.
They change the way a person sees themselves.
And yet people throw them around so carelessly.
In anger.
Out of habit.
For a moment of advantage.
Sometimes because they know exactly where to hurt the most.
The worst part is that later, they often do not even remember what they said.
To them, it was only a moment.
A few seconds.
Just another sentence thrown into the air.
Yet on the other side stood someone who remembered every word, each one leaving a deeper mark than a scream ever could.
Once spoken, they can hold far more weight than they ever should.
Then comes the quiet:
‘I’m sorry.’
But many people do not truly understand what they are apologising for.
They apologise for the reaction.
For the argument.
For the atmosphere.
Not for the words that have already made a home inside someone.
There are also people who have become so used to hurting others that they no longer apologise at all.
Words have become as natural to them as breathing.
Simply part of everyday life to them now.
They say:
‘You’re overreacting.’
‘They’re only words.’
‘I didn’t mean it.’
Words once spoken stay inside a person forever.
When they hit someone directly, they can take away something deeply important.
A sense of safety.
Peace.
Trust.
And once that happens, some things can never truly be restored.
Because there are words after which a person still stands beside you…
but never again feels at home with you.
